Description

"The Howcette" Trike

Built in the mid 1960s by Bob Howard a motor engineer from West Bridgford, Nottingham. Based on a 1939 Velocette MSS. An amazing one off, Early Ford Pop with a pinch of Morris parts provide the front end, Steering, Brakes and wheels. The steering control is adapted from a Rover 2000 and nothings new! It unscrews and fold forward to provide access for the driver. Front suspension units are "Woodhead Monroe". The front frame is a a "space frame" of tubular steel and the bones are all clad in Aircraft style aluminum sheet which looks superb. We have 12 volt electrics  with and electric fuel pump fed from an aluminum 5 gallon fuel tank. A "Smiths" Chronometric speedo and tacho are well mounted along with the lighting and other switch gear. Conventional pedal arrangement, Foot clutch, brake and accelerator, With right hand side gear change through the Velocette MSS gear box and the hand brake is situated to the left outside of the cockpit. Originally fitted with the MSS Velocette motor but changed by Howard in the mid 1970,s to a Velocette Venom motor with an Amal 389 carburetor. Gases are expelled from a tradition Velocette Fish Tale exhaust system. The outside kickstart is interesting and once fired , jump in and your off. 50/60 MPH is easily reached and is a happy cruising speed. First registered in Nottingham on June the 1st 1968 RVO47F. Soon a familiar sight at BMF rallies and other bike events with Bob at the controls into his 60,s. Winner of MCN special of the year. The history file is excellent which follows the "Howcette",s journey to the current day. Many, Many press cuttings and it appears in its day the "Howcette" had quite a cult following and was very well known on the BMF scene. One such follower a Mr Dave Wells waited his chance for a number of years as it explains in the history becoming the 3rd owner in 2009, Sharing a joint ownership with fellow enthusiast Derek Manders. It all makes very interesting reading. Today this one off is in lovely condition and appears to run very well and is presented as said with its extensive history and current V5C. We have proved its a real crowd puller  as we have enjoyed using the "Howcette" over the past weeks. You don't have to be shy if you own such an unusual classic. Truly unique, Delivery arranged.
